About Me
Assistant Editor
Who am I?
My name is Jessica. Since I was a child, I have been a voracious reader of fantasy and (Young Adult) romance novels. I was the kid who would get yelled at to “go to bed” or “put the book down and come to dinner.” As I grew up, reading moved to the back burner of my life. I went to college for chemistry and math, continuing on to get my masters in computer science.
So with that educational track, how in the world did I get here?
I had surgery in 2022 that forced me to slow down, take some time off, and gave me time to read again. I moved from young adult to new adult and adult fiction. (I still read and enjoy young adult too!) The more books I read, the more I noticed typos, grammatical errors, confusing sentences, or even plot holes that could have been avoided with a simple explanation. I realized that my analytic background and ability to recall every part of a book made me naturally inclined to pick up all the little details. One day, I slid into the DMs of a self-published author and offered to help her with her next book. She accepted, and it was one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in recent years. I loved being a part of her process, helping her take her incredible raw talent and create the best book possible. Just like that, I was hooked. I wanted to help authors get the best final product possible. I wanted to be a part of the creativity and incredible use of the English language that makes readers feel such deep emotions for completely fictional characters and worlds. I feel overjoyed and honored to be a part of it.
